The exciting challenge that is... One Route
My name is James Heaney and on 10th May 2011, I began my journey to become the youngest person from the UK (at 25 years old) to do a solo circumnavigation of the world by motorcycle.
I am riding 20,000 miles through 13 countries from Cheltenham, England going into Europe, through Bulgaria, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia to Vladivostok where I’ll get a ferry over to Japan. From Tokyo I’ll fly over to San Francisco, follow Highway 1 south into Los Angeles, then along Route 66, finishing in Chicago 100 days later - and yes, that is a homage to Long Way Round!
I’m doing the trip to raise money in support of War Child, registered with the Charity Commission No. 1071659. You can sponsor me by following the link to my Just Giving page.
About War Child
War Child are an international charity that protects children living in the world's most dangerous war zones. They currently work in Iraq, Afghanistan, Uganda and D.R. Congo.
War Child’s mission is to support and strengthen the protective environment for children who, as a result of conflict, live with a combination of insecurity, poverty and exclusion.
War Child helps protect children by:
- Reintegrating child soldiers with their families
- Getting children off the streets, after war has forced them to leave home
- Separating children from adults in prison
- Rebuilding schools destroyed by war
